Lockdown Day 21

So the news is in! Lockdown will come to an end!
Five days of Christmas means time with friends and family we can spend.
Is this the right decision, nobody knows,
And it’s yet to be seen into which tier everybody goes.

Let’s hope the Christmas cheer doesn’t later set us back,
And reverse the steady ‘R decline’ to get us back off track.
Great for morale, for many at least,
As the nation heads towards being partially released.

Lockdown Day 20

Pass me the ‘thingy’ he said,
As he got quite animated.
And with his eyes I was led,
Which all seemed complicated.

Without descriptive language,
We’re left to second guess.
Which can cause a bit of anguish,
And leave us in a mess.

So three cheers from me to diction,
For helping us each day.
To help communicate without restriction,
And our message to convey.

Lockdown Day 19

Treasured deer were gathered here the other day,
To graze amongst the parkland.
Across the fields they meandered along their way,
And then stilled, seeing humans on their homeland.

The stags and does in their natural habitat stayed,
With some fawn nestled between.
With trepidation from both sides next steps were made,
Considering wondrously the other being.

Lockdown Day 18

Round and round, lockdown seems infinite at times,
So today on our bikes, we rediscovered former pastimes.
Something quite calming about wheels spinning round,
As the bikes carried us over the leaf covered ground.

The leaves crinkled and crunched as our bikes whizzed through,
Something unique to autumn to do.
Another day well spent on our second lockdown,
Exploring on wheels our local hometown .

Lockdown Day 17

A robin popped by on a crisp autumn day,
It landed right beside us, obviously wanting to play.
And with the camera quickly poised ready, we started to snap,
A lovely opportunity which fell into our lap.

Its lovely grey feathers fluttered in the chilly breeze,
Intrigued in what we were doing and eager to  please.
It preened and it danced and pushed out its little red breast,
Then eventually flew away, back to its nest.

Lockdown Day 16

Stuck in lockdown, we do lots virtually,

To do what we need to, with those we can’t see.

So from the comfort of my sofa,  I watched a virtual black tie event,

Awards were presented although all nominees were absent.

The comedian compare was present all the same,

Standing alone for his moment of fame.

And as he announced the award we were waiting for,

I was delighted to witness my favourite nominee win it once more.

Three times on the bounce, the hat trick has been scored,

A veritable achievement one, I wholeheartedly applaud.

Nice to be part of his moment of glory,

A rare positive part of the Covid story.

The prerecorded acceptance speech was one not to be missed,

Who would have thought a BAFTA film producer he would enlist.

Mixing with the celebrities he took it all in his stride,

A perfect ending for someone justly bursting with pride.

Lockdown Day 15

A sunny afternoon stroll around crumbling castle walls,
Imagining days gone by and, the regal historical halls.
The castle is but a ruin now; the passing of time taken its toll,
But a recent excavation, shows artefacts of days of old.

Evidence of the dungeons and the danger are still clearly in place,
So many people having been there, the rich and the disgraced.
In spite of its importance, the castle now stands quiet and still,
But remains an imposing indication of the history of the hill.

Lockdown Day 14

A morning sky more beautiful than most,
A bright orange cloud from the sun’s warming light and roast.
As the whispy carrot coloured cloud quickly whirled through the sky,
I watched its beauty as it raced along by.

Soon back behind the gloomy grey clouds,
Back once more to mingle with the cloud crowds.
Like we do in life, it had its moment of fame,
Then was back to blending in with the crowds once again.

So be that orange cloud, take your moments to shine,
Dare to stand out from time to time.
Life passes by, just like the cloud,
Make a difference; be brave, be bold and be proud.

Lockdown Day 13

9 months on and many of us are still working from home,

Never on a laptop more, with Zoom, Skype or Chrome.

The Zoom fatigue is real, I think many have said the same,

But so was the commute, so it’s just a different game.

If you look for the positives, there are perhaps some perks,

Like more time at home to enjoy your own personal quirks.

So whilst we miss real people and the interaction that involves,

Nothing lasts for ever and with time, things will evolve.

Lockdown Day 12

I dedicate today’s ode, to my favourite local magazine,
Pomfretian allows community news and small businesses to be seen.
Never more important than now with the challenges we all face,
So it’s nice to see so many local things, all in one handy place.

If you’ve not already seen it, I’d recommend that you do,
Available in print or online, whatever’s easiest for you.
With news, stories and adverts of lots of things nearby,
If you’ve not already done so, why not give Pomfretian a try!
