Lockdown Day 16

Stuck in lockdown, we do lots virtually,

To do what we need to, with those we can’t see.

So from the comfort of my sofa,  I watched a virtual black tie event,

Awards were presented although all nominees were absent.

The comedian compare was present all the same,

Standing alone for his moment of fame.

And as he announced the award we were waiting for,

I was delighted to witness my favourite nominee win it once more.

Three times on the bounce, the hat trick has been scored,

A veritable achievement one, I wholeheartedly applaud.

Nice to be part of his moment of glory,

A rare positive part of the Covid story.

The prerecorded acceptance speech was one not to be missed,

Who would have thought a BAFTA film producer he would enlist.

Mixing with the celebrities he took it all in his stride,

A perfect ending for someone justly bursting with pride.

Lockdown Day 15

A sunny afternoon stroll around crumbling castle walls,
Imagining days gone by and, the regal historical halls.
The castle is but a ruin now; the passing of time taken its toll,
But a recent excavation, shows artefacts of days of old.

Evidence of the dungeons and the danger are still clearly in place,
So many people having been there, the rich and the disgraced.
In spite of its importance, the castle now stands quiet and still,
But remains an imposing indication of the history of the hill.

Lockdown Day 14

A morning sky more beautiful than most,
A bright orange cloud from the sun’s warming light and roast.
As the whispy carrot coloured cloud quickly whirled through the sky,
I watched its beauty as it raced along by.

Soon back behind the gloomy grey clouds,
Back once more to mingle with the cloud crowds.
Like we do in life, it had its moment of fame,
Then was back to blending in with the crowds once again.

So be that orange cloud, take your moments to shine,
Dare to stand out from time to time.
Life passes by, just like the cloud,
Make a difference; be brave, be bold and be proud.

Lockdown Day 13

9 months on and many of us are still working from home,

Never on a laptop more, with Zoom, Skype or Chrome.

The Zoom fatigue is real, I think many have said the same,

But so was the commute, so it’s just a different game.

If you look for the positives, there are perhaps some perks,

Like more time at home to enjoy your own personal quirks.

So whilst we miss real people and the interaction that involves,

Nothing lasts for ever and with time, things will evolve.

Lockdown Day 10

Lockdown weekend 2, but our house is quite content;
Two pre teen boys doing a 12 hour gaming event.
To raise some money for Children with Cancer UK
A productive way to spend a lockdown day!

As chief runner for our little event,
For all sorts of things I have been sent.
It won’t be something that will be regularly allowed,
But all for a great cause and of the gamers I’m proud.

Lockdown Day 9

With next year’s exams cancelled in Wales,
I wonder if England will announce similar details.
Wales are often on the front foot, like with the firebreak too,
I’ve noticed we often follow what Wales decide to do!

Of course some pupils will like it and others won’t agree,
But better to know now rather than wonder what will be.
School leavers have got it tough now, with new paths having to be found,
COVID 19 will be remembered, years after it’s around.

Lockdown Day 8

Over 50,000 lives have been lost,
A stadium full and more.
More than the number killed in the blitz,
Another parallel with the war.

Ever changing plans as we learn,
About those at risk and those who spread alike.
And with that in mind there’ll be a controlled student return,
To minimise another spike.

Does this suggest the 2nd December won’t be the end?
And the tier system won’t soon resume?
On the science and data I guess it will depend,
But I suspect they’ll say it’s too soon.

Today’s little ode is more sombre than I generally write,
To acknowledge the severity we endure.
So please let’s all stay cautious and apart,
And so we don’t lose even more.

Lockdown Day 7

I underestimated the challenges of communicating with a mask,
With muffled voices and hidden faces it really is a task.
Never mind the things that need Face ID
It’s hard to prove that me is… well me!

First world problems, I know they are,
And it’s testament to technology for having come this far.
Just a little observation nonetheless,
But for now we’ll work around the added bit of stress.

Lockdown Day 6

Day 6! Almost a week in!
Exciting news of a vaccine has us all in a spin.
Does this mean a new normal is in sight?
I think that it quite possibly, maybe, might.

How long to roll out, nobody knows.
But it could mean an end to some lockdown woes.
It’s the best news yet, since lockdown began,
With baited breath we’ll await the next national plan.

Lockdown Day 5

Day 5 in England’s lockdown dawns as we awake,
Wales, meanwhile, is coming out of firebreak.
Will it have worked is yet to be seen,
But for an an annual TV show it will be the new scene.

I’m a celebrity TV producers have had to make a change,
Heading to Wales rather than Oz – A far closer range.
An old Conwy castle; a challenge of different sorts,
I think they’ll need more than their little red shorts!
